Advanced CFD
Overall Course Objectives
To enable the student to perform simulations and analyse complex flow phenomena.
using commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
Learning Objectives
- perform complex mesh generation using STAR-CCM+
- choose appropriate numerical models for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction
- explain the principles of adjoint optimization and apply the technique on flow problems
- select and apply appropriate models for numerical simulation of miscible and immiscible fluids
- select and apply appropriate models for numerical simulation of dispersed multiphase flow
- select and apply appropriate models for numerical simulation of flow with chemical reactions
- create script for post processing
- create and use job script for high performance computing (hpc) queuing systems
- write technical reports using LaTeX and create a bibliography using BiBTeX
Course Content
Introduction to numerical simulation of complex flow phenonema. Derivation of numerical schemes for
unstructured meshes and mesh generation of complex geometries. Introduction to
overset/chimera and morphing mesh techniques. Weak and strong coupling of
fluid-structure interaction problems; adjoint optimization; introduction to
numerical modelling of multiphase flows; advanced pre- and post processing
