Single-Course Dansk 5 ECTS

Building renovation registration and design proposals

Overall Course Objectives

The course will provide the student with knowledge of Danish building traditions throughout history. Based on this knowledge, a design proposal will be prepared so that the building will meet current and future requirements for interior design, energy consumption, indoor climate and sustainability. The design proposal will require renewal of mechanical installations as well as necessary structural changes to the supporting structures in the building.

Learning Objectives

  • Evaluate and analyze an older building, with a focus on preparing an action plan for how the building can be renovated to meet future functional, energy requirements and sustainability requirements.
  • Prepare proposals for a more contemporary space division with special emphasis on establishing wet rooms.
  • Prepare proposals for energy renovation of the building.
  • Prepare proposals for establishing a recreational area on the roof, or on terrain, and establish new balconies, with a focus on energy optimization, retention of rainwater and energy production.
  • Evaluate the fire engineering conditions.
  • An Energy Label is prepared for the building
  • Design of new heating and ventilation installations for contemporary energy and comfort requirements.
  • Design of new drainage and water installations for contemporary energy and comfort requirements.
  • Explain for the cooperation of the group.

Course Content

Buildings use up to 40% of Denmark’s total energy consumption. In order to meet the government’s and the EU’s goal of reducing the energy consumption of the existing building stock by at least 50% by 2050, massive investments in renovation projects are required.
At the same time, the requirements for the design and use of our buildings are changing.
The students prepare a registrant with associated design proposals for building renovation, with the following means:
• Analysis and assessment of building condition
• Registration and assessment of mechanical installations and building structures.
• Design proposals for changes to the interior, including a new bathroom
• Design proposals for changes to the climate shield, with an assessment of minimizing energy consumption.
• Design proposals for water, drainage, heating and ventilation conditions for a contemporary comfort level and minimizing future resource consumption
• Design proposals for necessary structural changes
• Sustainability assessment of the design proposals
• Economic assessment of the costs of the proposed solutions.
