Single-Course Danish 5 ECTS

Calculus and Algebra 2

Overall Course Objectives

To provide the students with basic knowledge of linear algebra and systems of linear differential equations as well as experience with using these concepts to solve engineering problems

Learning Objectives

  • Use Gaussian elimination to solve systems of linear equations
  • Perform basic computations with matrices
  • Compute determinants
  • Decide if a square matrix is invertible, and compute the inverse if it exists
  • Find eigenvalues and eigenvectors for square matrices
  • Solve simple systems of linear differential equations
  • Apply the symbolic software tool Maple to solve and graphically display mathematical problems and solutions
  • Use linear algebra to solve engineering problems, for example solve over-determined systems of equations and finding extremal points for functions of two variables

Course Content

Gaussian elimination, matrix algebra, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, systems of linear differential equations, engineering applications of linear algebra
