From Analytics to Action
Overall Course Objectives
The general purpose of the course is to qualify the student to understand and handle problems and opportunities in data analysis projects from a management perspective. The student will be able to identify and assess challenges in connection with the commercial and organizational value of data projects as well as challenges in connection with their implementation, including collection, analysis and visualization of data, involved, processes, technology and organization. In this regard, there will be a special focus on communicating the results and prerequisites of data projects, including various strategies for data visualization and involvement of stakeholders, as well as translation of the data project’s potential to the business context of the company or organization in question. As a team, the students must be able to find solutions to identified challenges and communicate them clearly in a management perspective.

- prepare a presentation of the project’s opportunities and challenges to senior management
- communicate the project’s results and relevance to the company’s business in clear and well-argued language
Course Content
The role of data analysis projects in different organizational contexts. Challenges in connection with the implementation of data analysis projects in companies. Different types of data visualization and strategies for their use. Different theories about data and the effects of data analysis on markets and organizations. Involvement of stakeholders in analyses of data. Assessment of the business value of data projects. Discussion of data quality issues. Typical data analysis process models. Technological challenges. Analysis of actors. Data analysis strategy. Discussions, articles and mini-cases will give participants the opportunity to discuss individual aspects of management challenges and solutions. Within a project based on a case study, participants will apply their knowledge in a team and deliver solutions.
Recommended prerequisites
The course requires a basic understanding of data analysis methods (e.g. machine learning, social data science, or statistics).
