For this panel discussion, we have invited Dr. David Monciardini and Prof. Karyn Morrissey. David Monciardini is a Senior Researcher in Business Economics at the University of Turin. His research investigates the role of legal and social norms in the relationship between business entities and socio-ecological systems. Until March 2024, David held a position at the University of Exeter Business School as Director of the Law and Business programmes. Karyn Morrissey is Professor in Applied Economics in the Division for Climate and Energy Policy at DTU. She has a backgorund as an economist and has an interest in utilizing digital twins to analyze climate change adaptation policies and their impact on both public health and natural resources. The panel discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Salla Laasonen, Academic Director for the Executive Master in Sustainable Leadership programme. Marco Kisic is Managing Director and Head of ESG Research at Nordea Markets.

David Monciardini

Dr. David Monciardini, University of Turin, Dept of Economics and Statistics

David Monciardini joined the University of Turin in 2024 as a Senior Researcher in Business Economics. Before that, he held the position of Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter Business School, where he was also Director of the Law and Business programmes. He is also visiting fellow at the University of Exeter, Sustainable Futures. His research interest revolves around the relationship between business and society and its regulation through legal and social norms. This includes research on corporate governance and corporate accountability; circular economy and its regulation; business and human rights. His research has been published in Business Ethics Quarterly, Business Strategy and the Environment, Business & Society, Journal of Business Ethics, and Regulation & Governance among others.

Karyn Morrissey

Prof. Karyn Morrissey, DTU Management

Karyn Morrissey is a Professor in Applied Economics in the Division for Climate and Energy Policy at the Department of Technology, Management, and Economics at the Technical University of Denmark. An economist and econometrician by background, but previously working in a Department of Geography (University of Liverpool) and a Medical School (University of Exeter) she situates her work as an inter-disciplinary, methods driven scientist, in the field human health and the environment. Karyn’s research is specifically driven by policy as demonstrated by her work with the Lancet Commission’s ‘The Lancet Countdown: tracking progress on health and climate change’, where she is co-author for Working Group 2 on adaptation, planning, and resilience for health.

Salla Laasonen

Academic Director, Executive Master in Sustainable Leadership

Dr. Laasonen is Associate Professor at DTU Department of Technology, Management and Economics. She is also the Academic Director of the Master in Sustainable Leadership, a technology and innovation driven executive programme that enables leaders to plan, implement and execute sustainability within their organizations. Before joining DTU, she was Assistant Professor at the Business Society Management Department at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where she taught the Global Business and Sustainability Master, the International Business Administration, and part-time PhD programmes. She was previously also a visiting scholar at Standford University and George Washington University, and completed her PhD at the University of Turku, Finland. In addition to sustainability related topics, Dr. Laasonen has taught scientific research methods at all academic levels. Her research specializes in stakeholder management and dialogue, cross-sector partnerships, and the scientific facts behind sustainability issues. Being originally from Finland, she is ideally equipped to offer the participants a broad perspective to Nordic sustainability.
