Building Fire Technology

Overall Course Objectives

To provide the students with an understanding of building fire protection technology and its importance for securing human, material and economic values ​​that are part of modern construction – and to give participants such insight into the diverse areas of the profession that they will be able to deal with both detailed fire protection problems and cases in a larger context, be they of a practically oriented nature or within research and development.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain current fire safety legislation
  • Make a choice of use category for a construction project
  • Explain methods of active and passive fire protection
  • Assess whether the correct fire testing method has been used for various building materials and building elements
  • Provide a fire safety assessment of a building
  • Prepare a fire strategy report for a construction project
  • Explain the principles of fire ventilation and sprinkler systems
  • Explain the principles and purpose of a sensitivity analysis in the field of fire
  • Distinguish projects where the Building Act applies from projects where the Emergency Legislation applies.
  • Explain risk classes and fire classes

Course Content

The course includes learning about the development of fire damage and building fire legislation. The course provides an introduction to fire testing and classification. The course also introduces knowledge about thermal processes, the fire properties of building materials and an introduction to fire design of building structures. The course also includes learning about active and passive fire protection, fire risk and fire protection of different building categories. Finally, the course includes an introduction to fire engineering analysis and planning of construction projects, including through the presentation of case studies.

Furthermore, there is a limited number of seats available. If there are too many applicants, a pool will be created for the remainder of the qualified applicants, and they will be selected at random. You will be informed 8 days before the start of the course, whether you have been allocated a spot.
