Chemistry (Polytechnical Foundation)
Overall Course Objectives
To achieve knowledge of the fundamental chemical principles, which are part of the common polytechnic basis of the civil bachelor’s degrees
See course description in Danish
Learning Objectives
- Discuss chemistry in the circularity of the elements (e.g. the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle)
- Discuss the Periodic Table and periodic variations in physical and chemical properties
- State the electronic and geometric structure of atoms and molecules
- Define and use enthalpy, entropy, and free energy in relation to chemical reactions
- State conservation laws and stoichiometry
- Recognize and describe the most important types of organic compound classes
- Calculate kinetics and activation energies and explain catalysis
- Calculate equilibrium constants and composition at chemical equilibrium
- Calculate pH in solutions of strong and weak acids and bases and Buffers
- Calculate oxidation states and balance redox reactions
