Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and Analyze different types of biomass wastes and side streams, their composition, and potential valorization strategies.
  • Evaluate Methods for biomass fractionation, pre-treatment, and enzymatic hydrolysis.
  • Design Processes: biomass conversion by fermentation, including submerged and solid-state systems, and optimize processes for improved performance.
  • Understand Biorefinery Principles: formulate strategies for total biomass valorization within a biorefinery concept.
  • Apply Integration Techniques: use process integration and intensification to maximize product formation and economic revenues.
