Healthcare Innovation Leadership Challenge

The Innovation Leadership Challenge Programme (ILC) is a unique and combined DTU/UC Berkeley top executive programme. The focus is on leadership challenges for top management in establishing and supporting systemic innovation activities within healthcare and life-sciences.

Through the years, several projects developed during the ILC program have turned into actual healthcare innovations. The programme is designed to incorporate leading healthcare innovation agenda setters from the US, Europe, and Asia.

ILC attracts a wide range of top management from regional and municipal level government facilities, leading universities, organisations, and the private industry (Novo Nordisk, Novartis, LEO Pharma, Siemens, Radiometer, etc.)

The ILC programme offers a fantastic opportunity to meet leading people from the Danish healthcare sector, to work on highly relevant challenges faced by hospitals, to learn from an amazing range of high-level speakers from around the world, and to learn new, valuable tools and techniques for analysis and problem-solving!

    – Christian Etgen, Head of Customer Services, Siemens Healthineers Denmark

Creating a solution to your challenge

ILC is based around three business innovation topics:

    1. Discover – identify a project
    2. Design – design a solution
    3. Implement – implement the idea into real life actions

The programme is structured around a process for identifying challenges at each hospital and healthcare service unit, with the goal of establishing an action plan to handle these, while building sustainable managerial capabilities.

The key elements of the ILC programme:

    • A shared mindset and an initial understanding of the hospital & healthcare innovation system among top leaders within this field, in cooperation with executives from related institutions, e.g. municipalities and/or private partner companies.
    • A process for identifying and dealing with specific leadership challenges for supporting the healthcare leadership innovation system.
    • A plan for specific actions for the implementation of such a system, incl. the role of senior management.
    • An active corps of “innovation champions” among hospital & healthcare executives.
    • Cooperative relationships with municipalities and/or private partner companies – as an integrated part of a sustainable innovation system.

    Programme structure & focus areas

The programme is composed of a kick-off plus three modules at DTU Learn for Life in Lyngby in combination with a one-week stay at Haas School of Executive Business at UC Berkeley, California.
